Andrej Tišma: Sculptures for the New Millennium

Andrej Tišma's new digital prints Sculptures for the New Millennium demonstrate a clash between the civilian and the military world. The army is increasingly taking control over civilian way of life and infringing on our privacy, he states. The world conflicts currently taking place in hundreds of locations all over the planet are influencing  life in the so-called civilised world, and we are witnessing those clashes in the media  every day. These digital prints are symbolising this precarious situation.

As in some of his previous work, Tišma is mainly motivated by the oversaturation of disturbing digital images and the irony of main-stream political and social propaganda. His works are a powerful commentary on the type of world we live in and the uncertainty of our future.

Andrej Tišma (1952, Novi Sad, Serbia) is a multi-media visual artist, art critic and writer. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1976. He has had many solo exhibitions since 1972 (Novi Sad, Belgrade, New York, Milan, Seoul, Munich, Naples, San Francisco, London, Budapest, Tokyo, Bremen), and since 1969 took part in some 500 collective exhibitions and festivals in Yugoslavia and about 40 countries worldwide. Tisma creatively expresses himself in concrete poetry, mail art, photography, performance, electrographics, video, web art and music. His web art works are included in the Net Art Idea Line, Whitney Museum Of American Art, New York, USA; Rhizome Artbase, New York, USA; Net Art Guide, Stuttgart, Germany; Net Art Collection of the Irish Museum Of Modern Art, Dublin, Ireland. He has been publishing art reviews and essays since 1976. A collection of his articles, essays and rubber-stamp works was published in San Francisco by the Stamp Art Gallery in 1996. Under the pen-name Andrej Živor, he has also been publishing prose and poetry since 1977. He lives and works Novi Sad, Serbia.
